PLANTATION, Fla.—April 15, 2024—Northstar Financial Planners, a fee-only Registered Investment Advisor in Plantation, Florida, was honored to sponsor the fifth annual Autism Bike Ride, “Riding for the Cause,” on April 13.
Hosted by the Dade County Association of Fire Fighters Charities, the event brought the community together to support autism awareness. Northstar Lead Advisor Charlie Thomas, CFP®, MBA, participated in the ride in addition to the firm’s sponsorship.
Thomas said he was proud to do his part in increasing autism awareness. “It’s critical to support individuals with autism in our communities. Participating in this event is one way we can show our commitment.”
The Autism Bike Ride began at the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Training Facility in Doral. Participants could choose between a 12-mile leisure ride throughout Doral and a more challenging 40-mile ride across Miami-Dade County. The event culminated in a gathering with food and dessert vendors to help foster community and shared purpose.
Thomas’s ride followed his recent participation in the Fight for Air Climb - Miami, a stair-climbing challenge to support the American Lung Association.

“We’re honored to support the Dade County Association of Fire Fighters Charities and their work,” Giese said. “We are avid supporters of both first responders and families with children who have autism.”
The Dade County Association of Fire Fighters Charities assists firefighters and families in need, and makes charitable contributions to various public charities. “Since the inception of this charity event in 2019, more than $40,000 has been raised to assist families in financing the therapy and treatments of children with autism,” the event’s webpage states.
In addition, a portion of the 2024 proceeds will benefit the University of Miami’s efforts to increase awareness and therapeutic treatments.
Giese added that participation in events like the Autism Bike Ride serves as a reminder of the power of collective action and the difference it can make in the lives of individuals and families affected by autism.
